Greater Noida Amps Up Power Infrastructure To Meet Summer Demand
Substations of Greater Noida are being upgraded to provide relief to Greater Noida West societies facing tripping issues during peak summers.
Greater Noida is showing no laxity this time and is taking preemptive measures by upgrading key substations to meet rising demand and reduce outages this summer.
The 33kV Iteda substation, currently supplying electricity to industrial Sectors (10, 12 and 16), will be connected to 220kV Jalpura substation by late February. The upgrade is expected to improve power distribution, Times of India reported. It would also limit tripping issues because of overloading during peak summer surge in societies in Greater Noida West area. On similar lines, the existing Iteda substation’s capacity is also being increased.
At present, UPPCL’s Iteda power substation, equipped with two 160 MVA transformers, is powering the industrial sectors. Now, the GNIDA officials after inspection of the facility have instructed that it be energised within the coming fortnight. The task of laying a transmission line between Jalpura and Iteda substations is almost over. The Iteda substation is being beefed up with an additional 10 MVA capacity transformer at the cost of Rs 8 crore.
The demand for electricity in the area is likely to rise this summer because of population growth and buoyant industrial and commercial activities. According to Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) sources, the demand is expected to rise by 100 MV, reaching 950 MV. To overcome this power shortage, GNIDA and NPCL are working on raking up the existing network that includes plans for new substations and capacity upgrades. In the scheme of things, a new power substation is proposed for Badalpur.
Prima facie, NPCL has constructed 11 new 33/11kV substations with the addition of a couple of switching stations. The supplier has also enhanced the capacity of 12 functional substations to a total of 152.5 MVA and pumped up the transformer capacity to 290 MVA.
